Abstract
Purpose: This study was to investigate the self-reported quality of life and identify its associated factors in the elderly with dementia compared to the elderly without dementia.

Methods: Study participants were the elderly with dementia(123) and the elderly without dementia(100). Home visiting nurses administered the following instruments to all participants : geriatric quality of life-dementia(GQOL-D), geriatric depression screening scale(GDSS), and physical health assessment and mini-mental status examination-Korean version(MMSE- K). Data was analyzed by unpaired t-test, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression.

Results: Depression and physical health status accounted for 51.03% of the variation in quality of life in dementia. Quality of life in dementia was significantly lower than in the elderly without dementia.

Conclusion: Depression and physical health status were the main factors affecting quality of life in dementia.
